Game changers: Role of Remittances and Diaspora Contributions

The African Non-state Actors Platform on Migration and Development hosted two side-events focused on  harnessing the potential of migrants and diaspora, beyond money transfers. We see the urgent need for inclusive policy dialogues that incorporate the voices and perspectives of African actors—governments, civil society, trade unions, financial institutions, and diaspora leaders - on how best to maximize the development impact of remittances and diaspora contributions -  towards the financing gaps. The panel will highlight key recommendations for post-Seville considerations for its African members states and to inspire other stakeholders to broaden the objectives set on remittances to other migrant and diaspora contributions as well as position civil society, diaspora and trade unions as allies for the call on reform of the global financial architecture. We will also carve out opportunities for collaboration and follow-up activities post-FfD4.

Under the Game changers: Role of Remittances and Diaspora contributions, the discussion was open to Representatives from African Union and Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Government officials from Ministries of Finance (and Diaspora Affairs), Diaspora leaders and organizations, Academia and civil society, youth organisations as well as UN agencies and development partners
